Homearama happenings: every day brings something new at Homearama

From opening day to show closing, nearly every day at Tidewater Builders Association’s 2007 Homearama offers visitors a special opportunity of some kind. The event is from Sept. 29-Oct. 14 at Edinburgh Meadows in Chesapeake. From savings on admission to fun for the kids, no matter which day you choose to come, it will be time well spent.

Saturday, Sept. 29: Meet sculptor David Turner, the talented artist responsible for the beautiful and exotic wildlife statuary on display throughout Edinburgh Meadows. Turner will make an appearance at House #2, Mystic Manor, built by Designs of Distinction Ltd. 1-4 p.m.

Sunday, Sept. 30: Members of the Chesapeake Arboretum will have photos on display as well as information on their many projects at the arboretum inside House 10, The Chesapeake House. Get information on their upcoming photo contest, the virtual gift shop and how you can “adopt-a-trail.”

Monday, Oct. 1: On Military Appreciation Day, active-duty military can take advantage of buy one, get one free admission with a valid military identification card.

Monday, Oct. 1: Check out the Chesapeake Public Library display inside House 10, The Chesapeake House, featuring information on an array of library resources including the Bookmobile and library card applications. Also, enter a drawing for your chance to win a Barnes & Noble gift card.

Tuesdays, Oct. 2 & 9: Cox Communications “Two for Tuesdays” offers two-for-one admission with a Cox Communications bill.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: At the Real Estate Open House, realtors get in early for a brunch sponsored by TowneBank from 9:30-11 a.m. and are admitted free all day.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: The Fun Bunch from Chesapeake Parks & Recreation will be on hand inside House 10, The Chesapeake House, with information on all the fun ways you can “Take a break…… Recre 8 ” in Chesapeake and at the Northwest River Park. Enjoy a musical performance by the Suzuki Youth Violinists and The Shenanigans will perform from 3-5 p.m. and 6–9 p.m. Local artist, Everett Cossaboon, will do a watercolor demonstration outside under the pergola.

Wednesday, Oct. 3: Meet actor and environmental activist Ed Begley, Jr., star of HGTV's "Living With Ed,"
at the EarthCraft House built by Miller Custom Homes, from 7:30-8 p.m. The EarthCraft House was constructed using energy efficient and environmentally friendly products from top to bottom.

Friday, Oct. 5: Join Chef Randy Polley of Simply Culinary for some tasty cooking demonstrations inside House 10, The Chesapeake House.

Friday, Oct. 5: The region's first micro-winery, Carafe Wine Makers of Chesapeake, will be at House 10, The Chesapeake House, offering information on their many winemaking services and samples of some of their wines.

Friday, Oct. 5: WVBW The Wave will host a tasting party with La Galleria Ristorante inside House 7, The Dynasty, from 1-3 p.m. featuring delicious food, concert ticket give-aways and a drawing for dinner gift certificates.

Saturday, Oct. 6: Bring the kids out for their own party at Kid-a-rama from 1-3 p.m. at The Homearama Charity House built by Area Builders of Tidewater Inc. to benefit Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters. CHKD will host this afternoon of fun including face painting, hands-on teaching activities and a lemonade stand. Also, CHKD's "Buddy Brigade" pet therapists and mascot Healthy Bear.

Saturday, Oct. 6: WGH Eagle 97 will hold a prize give-away from 2-4 p.m. at the Homearama site. Also, register to win an all-in-one gardening tool

Saturday & Sunday, Oct. 6 and 7: Get an up-close look at the BB&T #2 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS, which was driven by Clint Bowyer in the 2007 NASCAR Busch Series races. The car will be on display at Homearama from noon to 4 p.m.

Sunday, Oct. 7: Get tips on Enhancing your home's curb appeal with landscape designer Tammy Eilers of K & D Rounds Landscape Services at 2:30 p.m. inside House 2, Mystic Manor. A graduate of George Washington University, Eilers is a certified Landscape Specialist and has been designing landscapes for 20 years.

Wednesday, Oct. 10: Sample foods from some of the best chefs in the region at A Taste of Chesapeake, sponsored by Virginia Natural Gas and HR Magazine from 6-8 p.m. and vote for your favorite. Six chefs from Chesapeake area restaurants will face off in a deliciously friendly food competition.

Thursday, Oct. 11: Chesapeake Regional Medical Center is hosting a Love Your Heart Day from 1-5 p.m. at House 4, The Laurel River, featuring free blood pressure screenings, chair massages, cooking demos and fitness classes. There will also be a heart healthy gift basket give-away and the CRMC Healthmobile will be on-site all day.

Thursday, Oct. 11: Area Builders of Tidewater Inc. and Riverside Brick will take advantage of the wine room in House 11, The Lillian Rose, by hosting a wine tasting event for Homearama guests from 5-8 p.m. Bon Vivant Market of Suffolk will provide the wine.

Come back out to the Homearama Furniture and Accessories Sale, noon-6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 15, where Homearama visitors can return to purchase their favorite furniture and décor items from selected homes.
