Homearama 2008

What is Homearama? Homearama is a 17-day single-site display of fully furnished and fully landscaped custom showcase homes that demonstrate the latest in home construction, design, furnishings and technological innovations. It is the 27th year it has been staged by Tidewater Builders Association in South Hampton Roads. This year seven homes ranging from 4,100 to 7,700 square feet will be on display.
Where is it? The event is at Wilshire Village at Ashville Park in Virginia Beach, developed by L.M. Sandler & Sons Inc. The community, the landscaping and the homes have been designed by renowned residential designer, Stephen Fuller. The site is the first Fuller master planned community in Virginia and is located in southern Virginia Beach, just off Princess Anne Road.
When is it? This year the show opens on a Friday, Oct. 3-19, noon until 9 p.m. Sundays through Thursdays, and until 10 p.m. Fridays and Saturdays. Ticket sales will stop one hour prior to closing.
How much does it cost? General admission is $10 for a one-day pass and $17 for a two-day pass. Active duty and retired military guests and seniors (over 55) get a $2 discount. Only one discount applies. Children 12 and under are free.
Feature Homes:
- The Conner Glenn: The Tidewater Builders Association Charity House, built by The Walters Company Inc., sponsored by Monarch Bank and L.M. Sandler & Sons Inc., with proceeds to benefit the Children’s Hospital of The King’s Daughters.
- The Mothership, built by Miller Custom Homes, is a green-built house displaying a healthier, durable, and more resource-efficient home. Features a meditation labyrinth created by the Edgar Cayce Foundation.
- The Virginia Beach House, built by TCI Inc., with products and décor that reflect the city’s culture and heritage.
- The Virginia Arts Festival House, built by Cohen Homes, with décor and activities that promote the arts.
- The Monarch Bank Wedding House, built by J.F. Schoch Building Corp., decorated and ready to host a wedding for a lucky military couple.
- The Big League, built by Joey Corp., a home built to honor local major league baseball heroes, featuring appearances by professional players.
Other Highlights:
- “Two for Tuesdays” with Cox Communications offering two-for-one admission to anyone presenting a Cox Communications cable bill on Tuesday, Oct. 7, or Tuesday, Oct. 14.
- Military Appreciation Day, on Monday, Oct. 6, military guests can take advantage of buy one, get one free admission with a valid military identification card.
- Realtors Day, set for Wednesday, Oct. 8, allows area realtors to be admitted free all day long with a business card. Early birds enjoy a hearty breakfast from 9:30-11 a.m.
- A Taste of Virginia Beach, sponsored by Virginia Natural Gas from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 15, will allow guests to sample some of the best cuisine this area has to offer.
- The Homearama Furniture Sale from noon-6 p.m., Monday, Oct. 20 where visitors will get the chance to purchase their favorite furnishings and décor from the Homearama homes. Free entry tickets for the sale will be given to all Homearama visitors in their show bag during the event.
- Southern Hospitality Auto Group will showcase the latest models in vehicles on display in selected driveways.
- An exhibit center with more than 100 booths showcasing housing-related products and services.
- A variety of workshops and entertainment are scheduled throughout the event.
- School Day, Wednesday, Oct. 15, pre-authorized chaperoned high school and college drafting/design classes will visit the show, with scheduled tours beginning at 11:30 a.m. Contact TBA for details.

Directions:
From I-64: Take Exit 286B to Indian River Road EAST. After the signal light for Kempsville Road, merge left to Ferrell Parkway. Stay on Ferrell Parkway, and follow exit for Princess Anne Road EAST. Continue on Princess Anne Road, past Dam Neck Road intersection, until reaching the Municipal Center. Turn LEFT to Princess Anne Road / North Landing Road at the Municipal Center. Take a RIGHT to Princess Anne Road at the 7-11. Take a RIGHT at the Rite-Aid to stay on Princess Anne Road. Turn LEFT at Ashville Park Blvd
From 264: Take EXIT 21A for First Colonial Road SOUTH. Cross intersection with Virginia Beach Boulevard, and continue on First Colonial Road, which will become Oceana Boulevard. Stay on Oceana Boulevard, past NAS Oceana (on right) and then turn RIGHT to General Booth Boulevard. Continue on General Booth Boulevard, turning LEFT to Princess Anne Road (7-11 on corner). Turn RIGHT to Princess Anne Road at signal (Rite-Aid and 7-11 on corners). Turn LEFT to Ashville Park Boulevard.
