The competition was hot among the eight builders vying for the coveted Critics’ Choice awards at Tidewater Builders Association’s Spring Homearama; however, it was The Walnut Cottage: The Garden House by Stephen Alexander Homes LLC that caught the critics’ attention. Spring Homearama kicked off with awards presentations on Friday, May 27, in the Eagle’s Nest community in Virginia Beach. The awards recognize the custom home builders, interior designers and landscaping companies for their contributions.
Homearama, open through Sunday, June 12, features nine fully furnished and landscaped custom showcase homes and an Idea Marketplace. The homes range from 2,600 to 4,400 square feet and are priced from the low $500,000s.
Seven have already been sold. Eagle’s Nest is located at Indian River and West Neck roads in southern Virginia Beach and features brick and brick-accent homes along with trails, ponds and 50 acres of conservation area. The annual event, produced by TBA, is designed to stimulate interest in new housing and homeownership.
The winner of the coveted Critics’ Choice Best Home in Show gold award was The Walnut Cottage by Stephen Alexander Homes LLC. It also won the Hampton Roads Realtors Association’s Most Livable Home, Pilot Media Excellence in Building Award, and gold awards for the Best Bath, Best Closet, Best Outdoor Living Area, Best Family Room, Best Pool, Best Home Furnishings, Best Interior Design and Most Creative.
The out-of-town judges were tasked with determining the winners of the Critics’ Choice Awards competition. The complete list of the 2011 winners follows:
